FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – January 11, 2007

FBI announces arrest of kidnapping suspect.

Laredo, Texas, - D. True Brown, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the San Antonio Division of the FBI, announced that at approximately 4:00 pm Thursday January 11, 2007 FBI Agents and Laredo Police Department officers arrested Maria Christina Rodriguez age 31 at her Laredo, TX residence. Rodriguez is a Permanent Resident Alien of the United States from Mexico.

Rodriguez was arrested without incident based on a Criminal Complaint filed January 5, 2007 by a FBI Agent in Laredo, TX. Rodriguez is charged for her role in the kidnapping of two Laredo citizens who were visiting in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico on July16, 2007. Rodriguez is alleged to have conspired with one or more other persons in the United States to kidnap the victims in a foreign country, a violation of Title 18 Section 956 of the U.S. Code, a crime that is punishable up to life in prison.

Both of the victims were safely returned to the United States.

Officials with the Tamaulipas, Mexico State Police are assisting with the investigation.

 


A criminal complaint is an accusation of criminal conduct and is not  evidence.
A defendant is presumed innocent until convicted through due process of law.
