Leon Valley, Texas, - D. True Brown, Acting Special Agent in Charge of the San Antonio Division of the FBI, announced today that during the evening hours of Monday, November 13, 2006, Officers of the Leon Valley Police Department (LVPD), and Special Agents (SA’s) of the FBI, arrested armed bank robbery suspect Matthew Ray Desarrio, a 29 year old resident of Leon Valley, Texas. Desarrio was arrested at a trailer in the 7100 Block of Bandera road shortly after the robbery of the Bank of America located at 7108 Bandera Road, in Leon Valley, Texas. Witnesses reported that at approximately 1:40 pm, on November 13, 2006, an unidentified white male entered the bank wearing a black baseball cap and blue jeans. The unidentified male approached a bank teller, produced a handgun and then demanded money. The robber obtained an undisclosed amount of money and then ran from the bank in an unknown direction. Responding LVPD Officers and FBI SA’s conducted an immediate investigation which identified a residence where Desarrio was located. Desarrio was arrested without further incident, and the stolen bank robbery funds and Desarrio’s handgun were also recovered during the arrest. Desarrio was housed at the Bexar County Detention Center over- night, and he will be formally charged by Federal complaint today at 3 pm prior to his initial appearance before a Federal Magistrate Judge.
