ANTONIO MAN SENTENCED ON CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES
United
States Attorney Johnny Sutton announced that George Wenglein, Jr.,
was sentenced to 78 months in federal prison after pleading guilty to
possession of child pornography. U.S. District Judge Fred Biery also ordered
that he pay a $100,000 fine, reimburse the government for the cost of
his incarceration and be placed under supervised release for the rest
of his life after completing his prison term.
“Child pornography victimizes children again and again. Any expansion
of the market for this filth causes more children to be abused and their
lives destroyed. As a society we must stand against this evil and relentlessly
pursue those who hurt our children,” stated United States Attorney Johnny
Sutton.
By pleading guilty, Wenglein admitted that on January 12, 2005, he was
in an Internet chat room entitled “vry yung” and responded to a message
that he had child pornography videos to trade. Thereafter, on March 4,
2005, a search warrant was executed at the defendant’s residence where
FBI agents found a laptop computer and a thumb drive. Forensic analysis
found that the thumb drive contained sixteen (16) jpeg images, many with
incestuous titles, and eighty one (81) movie clips of child pornography
which showed infants and toddlers being sexually abused.
This case is being prosecuted as part of the Department of Justice’s Project
Safe Childhood (PSC) initiative. PSC is a comprehensive initiative aimed
at preventing the abuse and exploitation of children through the Internet
or other distribution technology. PSC creates, on a national platform,
locally designed partnerships of federal, state, and local law enforcement
officers in each federal district to investigate and prosecute Internet-based
crimes against children. In addition to integration of law enforcement
at the district level, PSC also provides for effective participation of
PSC partners in coordinated national child pornography initiatives as
well as increased federal involvement in basic child pornography and enticement
cases.
This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and
was prosecuted for the government by Assistant United States Attorney
Mary Nelda Valadez.
